Curriculum

St Anthony’s provides a Christ-centred education that forms the whole child and challenges them to reach their full potential.

What we teach

We teach the Australian Curriculum as mandated by the requirements and syllabuses of the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).  This curriculum covers six Key Learning Areas:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Human Society and Its Environment (Geography and History)
  • Science and Technology
  • Creative Arts
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

Find out more about the curriculum by reading NESA's Parent Guide to the NSW Primary Syllabuses

In addition, we teach Religious Education according to the curriculum developed by Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta.

How we teach

In all CEDP schools, English and Mathematics are taught according to the Focus 160 framework.  This mandates a minimum of 100 minutes of English and 60 minutes of Mathematics learning every day, according to contemporary, research-based practices found to maximise student learning and understanding.

Learning in English involves a balanced model of reading, writing and speaking and listening learning that includes teacher modelling, teacher guided instruction and independent work.  In Mathematics, students consolidate core number skills through daily warm ups.  They are challenged to explore and extend mathematical understanding through rich, open tasks that are then reflected upon through teacher directed instruction.

At St Anthony’s Inquiry learning is foundational to learning across Key Learning Areas.  Teachers plan learning sequences that are guided by both curriculum requirements and student wonderings, in order to engage students in exploration, investigation and action that is purposeful and engaging.

We also believe that in addition to learning content, all learners need to develop qualities that will make them powerful and critical lifelong learners.  That’s why we have developed our Learner Profile and develop learning experiences that empower students to develop these qualities.

St Anthony’s values the uniqueness of every learner and believes every learner can learn.  Our teachers plan for, and make evidence-based adjustments to the curriculum to respond to the diverse needs of our students.  In addition, we have a range of practices and frameworks in place to meet the needs of students with particular learning needs.
